Day 378 - A Quiet Cup of Coffee

My mother used to set her alarm to wake up an hour before the rest of us. She liked to sit in the living room, with her cup of coffee and enjoy the quiet. I actually had that opportunity and it was bliss. I suddenly get why she would forfeit an hour of sleep to enjoy the peace. I was able to start my day relaxed and refreshed and (after a cup of caffeine) ready to do. A simple, quiet cup of joe brought a little joy to start my day.

Day 177 - Coffee

I was never a coffee drinker. In fact, I didn't really enjoy my first cup until I was in my mid 30's. And then? You couldn't stop me. I don't drink a ton - just about 5 cups a week. But when I do, I sip. I cradle the cup in my hands. I savor. I enjoy a slow, hot cup of coffee - lightly sweetened and a dash or two of cream. And this morning, the kids were all occupied upstairs leaving me in peace to savor a delicious cup. There is joy in a cup of coffee.

Day 40 - My time to write

I love those first few hours in the morning. After I've dropped the kids off to school. After the dishwasher and washing machine are full and humming along, doing their work. After I've poured my first cup of coffee and I'm sitting, here, at the computer. And it's my time. My time to check in on my favorite blogs. Order something online. Write something for a blog or an email to a friend. My time to write and not be interrupted. Sip my coffee leisurely and wait until the one of the washing machines beckons me to unload them. My time to write brings me joy.

Day 25 - Old Friends

It is so nice to touch base with an old friend. Someone you haven't seen in 20 years and it's as if nothing has changed. I just had that experience yesterday. She was an old friend from high school and we just discovered that even though we live about 1000 miles away from our home towns we're just 45 minutes away from each other now! Amazing! And we had the best time catching up over coffee this weekend. Here's to the joy of re-discovering old friends!

Day 10 - A quiet house

I'm not a night person. By about 8pm I've shut down. I'm tired. A little more cranky. And I don't feel like interacting with anyone. But I have three children. And a husband who is a night person. My home is active and bustling in the evening. So I don't get my peace and quiet at night - I get it during the day when husband is at work and kids are at school. Sometimes, after I've dropped the kids off at school I'll go to Starbucks, get my favorite Caramel Macchiato and come right home. I let the dog out and then sit on the couch in our family room and just listen. To the quiet. I sip my coffee and enjoy the silence. Because there IS joy in silence. Ahhhhhhh......
