Day 399 - Snow!

So pretty to look at. But not fun to drive in. School has been cancelled and the pantry is full. We can stay home today and play and not have to worry about a thing. (Oh, my poor husband who had to go to work today!) I'm looking forward to a day of fun with my kids today. We'll bake and play games and watch old movies. A lot of snow, a lot of joy!

Day 370 - Snow

We've had snow on and off all day long. Nothing is sticking. But outside our window we've watched huge, fluffy flakes drift down. My husband was disappointed that it wasn't sticking. But my #1son said, "It's still pretty to look at." How right he is. It's gorgeous. I'm glad I don't live in this kind of weather all winter long. But the few times a year that we get snow? It sure is pretty to look at! A little snow joy!

Day 66 - Snowed In

We're stuck. No driving today. But that's ok. We cancelled all plans. Our refrigerator and pantry is stocked. A day to do absolutely nothing. Days like this don't come along very often and I'm going to relish in nothingness. No plans. No to-do list. No have-tos or shoulds. We're going to have a great day of nothing at Chez Joy's and we have the snow to thank. Ahhhhh, the joys of being snowed in!

day 65 - Snow!

I live in a part of the country that doesn't get snow very often. A couple times a year we might get a dusting. But nothing like today! Today, we had real snow. Everything is covered. The trees, the grass, the sidewalk. My boys made a snowman with their Dad and went sledding. My daughter took pictures. The dog went crazy in the backyard. I helped decorate the snowman and then ran inside to make hot chocolate. And then we all sat around and drank hot chocolate and ate popcorn and laughed and laughed. What a wonderful family time today. Thanks to that joyful snow!

Day 37 - Snowy Quiet

I don't live near snow anymore. We get snow maybe two or three times a winter season. But my sister lives where they could have snow seven months out of the year. I used to live in that during my childhood. And today I'm remembering that wonderful quiet after it snows. It's like the big, thick blanket of snow is an insulator. It filters out all of the noise and you can hear each individual sound. I loved to take walks after it snowed. My sister called today and told me about her run in the snow today and it made me miss snow. I still don't want to be surrounded by it 7 months out of the year but I still find joy in snow.

Day 29 - Snow Angels

I have a wonderful aunt who taught me about spontaneity and living in the moment. I'll never forget one winter evening when she said, "Want to take a walk?" with a little glimmer in her eye. It was late. Almost my bedtime - so, of course, I said yes! There was a fresh layer of snow on the ground and suddenly, without warning, she plopped down on someone's lawn and made a snow angel. She got up, began to walk away and said, "Won't THEY be surprised in the morning!" So that's what we did for the rest of our walk - made snow angels on lawns in my neighborhood. It's one of my favorite memories of my aunt. And now, I find joy in snow angels.
