Day 316 - Swimming

I use this one about every 100 days. But I can't help it. I love to swim. I found a community indoor pool where I can swim during the off-season for just $2. I went this afternoon and I feel great. I play different games with myself when I swim. Sometimes I predetermine how many laps I'll swim and then countdown the lengths of the pool as I swim. Sometimes I just count the laps and see how far I go. Other times, I pick a time-limit for my swim. Today? I just swam. And swam. And then decided to get out. It's my Zen. It's my peace. It's my joy.

Day 289 - Swimming

This weekend it's supposed to turn cold. Our outdoor pool in our subdivision will be closing on the 30th. I've been swimming a couple days a week since June. And this morning, I think I just had my last swim of the season. Oh sure, I might try to bring the boys this weekend. But for me, that silent, private swim time? This morning was it, I think. I might try next week, if I feel brave. But today I just want to recognize (again) how much joy swimming brings me.

Day 212 - Swimming

I used to be a swimmer. A competitive swimmer. Complete with 2 workouts a day, weight training. Short course in the winter. Long course in the summer. Five AM workouts before school. Sometimes logging in over 10,000 yards a day. Those days are long gone. Believe it or not, I miss it sometimes. I still swim occasionally. Not as often as I'd like. In my old age I've found that swimming is therapy to me. The rhythmic strokes. Going back and forth, up and down the pool. My head is always clear after a swim. And today was no exception. Joy in swimming after all these years.
